Although I don’t like talking about design unless necessary, I do give advice on flow and better design when it’s wanted. My graphic background helps me communicate well with designers. A good app starts with a good design. I also try to get clients to focus on the essence of content and prevent them from adding more features than needed—especially in a 1.0 version. Because I’m self-taught, I can explain technical processes in a simple and understandable way. While programmers often dive straight into details, I make the bigger picture more accessible. I’m not tied to a single programming paradigm. I’ve been programming since the 1980s and know many methods, solutions, and “dirty tricks.” Programmers often look for the beauty of code and deliberately avoid ugly solutions. That works in 95% of cases, but sometimes a temporary, less elegant solution is needed to move forward. The important thing is to mark it and fix it later. Code should be maintained and cared for. In my view, the best apps are those that help when needed—without wasting your time or bothering you with endless notifications. I see myself as a creative thinker, not just a code monkey. I think more than I write code—though you need to keep doing both. Outside of work I play guitar, do woodcarving, and write. At home our Wi-Fi turns off at nine in the evening. I love making apps, but there’s so much more to do and so little time. Like woodcarving.
